As a licensed marriage and family therapist, a Reiki Master, a yoga therapist, author, and a spiritual channeler and facilitator, I connect with the energy of Reiki and channel it to my clients. My goal is to help them open their own unique connection to this energy so that they can use it to heal themselves.

Reiki has shared with me, and some of my clients, that it has many names, including, Prana, Chi, Ki, Holy Spirit, Atman, etc. I have seen that my client’s ability to heal, and not just manage their symptoms, has increased since I started working in this manner. I set the intention for Reiki, and the beings and energies that reside in the unified field of Reiki energy, to guide me as I work with my clients, so I know what questions and interventions to offer them.

Reiki has shared that every human being’s core Self, or soul, is an aspect of this energy and that we can learn to support our own life force by connecting and working with the unified field of Reiki and the beings that live within it.

In my work with clients, I blend spirituality, psychology, and neuroscience. I help clients develop tools that have mindfulness as the foundation to help them connect to their unique connection to the Reiki energy, which I call the inner compass. I use mindfulness practices to help strengthen my clients' connection to their inner compass. This is the aspect of themselves that guides them to eventually heal and integrate their inner divinity with their humanity. It helps them remember what we were originally born knowing: that we are deeply compassionate, peaceful beings, who want to be authentic and collaborate towards the common good of all. We can remember that we all live inside the field of Reiki and that this energy is all things and connects all things.

The Inner Compass and Its Roadblocks

Our Innate Divine Traits

This healing process draws on psychological theories such as Erickson’s eight stages of development, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, neuroscience on brain development, and attachment theory to help us understand how the traits of Reiki are innate within us at birth. These traits include some of the frequencies of the divine energy of Reiki, including compassion, curiosity, confidence, courage, clarity, calm or peace, and connection or unity.

These are the natural traits that we all possess in childhood. However, in order for the brain to create neuropathways to the areas of the brain that help us stay connected to these frequencies and aspects of Reiki, we need to have had experiences that mirror and support those traits within us.

How Roadblocks Form

I use mindfulness, Depth psychology, Reiki and internal family systems theory to help people identify how their own core wounds developed, which I call roadblocks. I guide them to experience the difference between what their inner compass energy feels like and what their roadblocks feel like. This allows them to clearly see the patterns of emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and beliefs that interrupt their connection to this inner compass. They can also feel and sense the difference of this energy in and around their body.

I explain that these core wounds disrupt the natural development of a healthy brain. Instead of developing a healthy neural network and brain structure, we develop neural pathways connected to unhealthy belief systems that shape how we engage in and experience the world, and some brain structures don’t develop properly or fully. The brain, however, is plastic and capable of healing. We can heal our brain and develop new neural pathways through the intersectionality of Reiki energy with more traditional psychological tools, as well as through mindfulness practices like meditation and yoga.

A Personal Experience with Reiki

An example of how Reiki reveals itself in a unique way to those who access it comes from my own life. In 2008, while I was meditating at a psychic school where I was learning to do energy work, I had an experience connecting to Reiki that I did not understand at the time. During this meditation I was filled with loving energy and I felt I was love, peace, and everything in existence. Then I had the instinct to lay my hands on the other students, because I could see where they needed healing, and I knew that healing energy was flowing through me that could help them heal. Of course, the teachers did not teach Reiki and had no understanding that I was channeling Reiki, so they told me to stop what I was doing. At the time, this energy told me it was God.

In 2015, while I was studying Reiki with Colleen Benelli of Reiki Lifestyle, we were connected to Reiki doing automatic writing, and I had a memory of that experience. I asked Reiki to provide information on what I was doing in the memory. Reiki explained it had called itself God at the time because that was the framework I would understand based on my previous life experiences. Reiki then explained that it is life force energy and it flows through all things and has many names and many frequencies.

How to Connect to the Energy Yourself

A Simple Meditation to Connect

You might be wondering how to apply this to your own healing. Although it is helpful to learn to connect to Reiki with a teacher by getting an attunement, as it strengthens your connection, Reiki has shown me and my clients that anyone can access it by just asking the energy to reveal itself to you.

I guide my clients to connect to Reiki and begin the process of healing themselves through a guided meditation connecting them with their breath. I guide them to spend several minutes just accepting and observing their breath. Then I suggest that they focus on the air they are breathing. I invite them to think of the air as being alive, that it is a light wave which they can observe, that it respects free will, that it is the highest form of love, peace and unity, that it does not discriminate and loves all of creation, and that it is there for their support. Then I ask them what they sense.

I then guide them to ask the energy what it is, using their own discernment to determine if it truly is Reiki by noticing how their body responds. If their body feels open, calm, loved, and peaceful, they usually know it is Reiki. Once clients are connected, I ask them to share with the energy what they are wanting to work on and ask the energy to guide them to find what needs healing within their felt sense. This helps my clients intuitively connect to their own psychic gifts and intuition.

Your Path to Healing

The most important message Reiki has asked me to share is this: you are a divine being, containing a fragment of the energy of Reiki and it is your birthright to heal and be authentic. There are many ways to connect to the energy of Reiki to ask it for guidance in your own healing, to help you in making decisions in your life, or for support when you are feeling alone and overwhelmed with the human experience. There are also many paths to healing and remembering this truth. I invite you to find your own connection to this truly remarkable and beautiful energy and to your own inner divinity.

Go Deeper with The Divine Within

If this article resonated with you, I invite you to go deeper. My upcoming book, The Divine Within: Healing Ourselves to Heal the World, was channeled while I was connected to Reiki and explores these concepts in much greater detail.

In the book, you will learn how psychological theories intersect with the brain's ability to heal, how to identify and work with your own roadblocks, and how to use mindfulness, Depth psychology, and internal family systems to foster a powerful connection to your inner compass.
